If you have ADHD, you know the never-ending struggle of hunting for your keys, forgetting to reply to a friend even though you have done it in your mind, or wandering a supermarket wondering, "Wait… why am I even here?"
For many people with ADHD, memory doesn't always feel reliable, especially short‑term and working memory, which is the kind of memory involved in keeping a phone number in your head just long enough to type it, or remembering the steps of a plan while you’re busy doing it. Research shows that the struggle, in fact, is real and ADHDers do struggle with challenges related to working memory [1]. But there is always hope, and we have what is called working memory training!
At its heart, memory training is a practice, not a magic cure, that uses exercises to help your brain get better at remembering and retrieving information. It's rooted in the idea of neuroplasticity, meaning your brain can form new connections and improve how it processes information with consistent practice over time [2]. Think of memory like a machine, if you don't use it, it goes rusty. Memory based games in Propel take this very idea and turn it into playful challenges that feel low‑pressure and actually fun.
Although almost all of the games at some level involve memory training there are some games which are specifically focused on memory. The memory games in Propel help you practice real skills like recalling sequences, recognizing patterns, and holding spatial information in mind. Here’s a snapshot of the memory games featured in Propel:
Research shows that working memory training can do more than just make you better at the tasks you practice. It can also generalize to improvements in areas like attention and reducing ADHD symptoms [3]. It means that consistent memory training can make you good at remembering things and you can counter forgetfulness.
There isn't going to be instant improvement, it won't look like you waking up one day and recalling all the trivia from the YouTube video you watched yesterday or remembering where your car keys are without going for a wild goose chase after them. Change will not be perfect or instant, it will be slow and gradual but with consistent efforts. Just trust the process.
Whether you're here to focus better, calm your mind, or just feel a little more in control, we’re here to support you. One game at a time.
